It's January. Time for hot takes that will age like milk left in a hot car. 🥛
Here are my predictions for tech in 2026. Screenshot this. Roast me in December.
🔥 Prediction 1: An AI Company Will IPO and Crash Hard
Not OpenAI specifically. But someone in the AI space is going to go public with a $50B+ valuation and then crater 60% within 6 months.
Why: Investors will realize the revenue doesn't match the hype. "Promising" and "profitable" are different words.
Confidence level: 80%
🔥 Prediction 2: Apple Vision Pro Gen 2 Will Actually Sell
The first Vision Pro was a dev kit in disguise. Too expensive. Too heavy. Too weird.
The second gen will be lighter, cheaper, and have actual killer apps.
Did you know? The original iPhone sold 1.4 million units in its first year. The Vision Pro sold around 500K. Not a failure—a foundation.
Confidence level: 70%
🔥 Prediction 3: Someone Will Make "AI Girlfriend" Mainstream
Not like, weird niche apps. A REAL company will launch a companion AI that gets mainstream adoption.
It'll be controversial. There'll be think pieces. Your uncle will use it.
Confidence level: 85% (honestly already happening)
🔥 Prediction 4: React Will Feel "Legacy"
Not dead. Never dead. But the vibe will shift.
More devs will say "React is fine, but have you tried..." (Svelte, Solid, whatever's next).
The way people talk about jQuery now? That's how people will start talking about React.
Confidence level: 60%
🔥 Prediction 5: Major Cloud Outage Will Cause Real-World Harm
Not just "Slack was down for 4 hours."
I mean hospitals, traffic systems, or financial infrastructure.
This will spark actual regulation discussions.
Confidence level: 50% (I hope I'm wrong)
🔥 Prediction 6: "Prompt Engineering" Will Stop Being Hip
Everyone will just call it "writing good instructions."
The mystique will fade. It'll be like saying you're great at "using Google."
Confidence level: 90%
🔥 Prediction 7: A Junior Dev Will Build a $10M Company Solo
Using AI tools, a single person with no team will launch and scale something significant.
Not a lifestyle business—real VC-level revenue.
This will freak out the "you need a team" establishment.
Confidence level: 75%
🔥 Wild Card: Elon Will Do Something Unhinged
What? I don't know. But it'll happen. It always happens.
Confidence level: 100% (Narrator: He could have predicted this in any year since 2018.)
🎯 Check Back in December 2026
I'll score myself honestly. Probably 4/8 right if I'm lucky.
The fun of predictions isn't being right—it's thinking through where things are headed.
And if I'm completely wrong? At least we'll have fun laughing about it.
See you in December. 📅
