Adobe vs Everyone: Who Actually Owns Your Art?

5 min read

I used to love Photoshop. Then I loved Figma (until Adobe tried to buy it). Now I just fear Adobe.

The ToS Meltdown

Adobe pushed an update to their Terms of Service. It basically said: "We can look at your files to improve our services."

The internet interpreted this as: "We are going to steal your NDA-protected work to train our AI so we can replace you."

(Narrator: It was probably boilerplate legal text, but read the room, Adobe.)

The "Firefly" in the Room

Adobe has an AI called Firefly. They claim it's "ethically trained" on stock images. Designers are skeptical.

If a company has a magic button that says "Make Art," and they also have access to millions of artists' private files... well, you don't need a conspiracy board to connect the dots.

The Backtrack

Adobe apologized. They clarified the language. They promised they weren't spying.

But in the age of generative AI, trust is the only currency that matters. And Adobe spent theirs like a drunken sailor on shore leave.

Conclusion

I still pay my Creative Cloud subscription. Why? Because there is no alternative. I am a hostage. Blink twice if you need me to export a PDF for you.
